Digital displays in retail outlets helping Cranston's GoGo Cast to expand
SCREEN TIME: GoGo Cast has placed its screens in 200 R.I. locations, including the Shell gas station on Wickenden Street in Providence.

Cranston, RI July 17, 2010 — It is not often that a company founded in California's famed Silicon Valley moves to Rhode Island, but that is what happened with GoGo Cast Inc. in Cranston.

GoGo Cast offers convenience stores and pharmacies — for free — a new way to capture the attention of consumers through the use of high-definition, wireless monitors that flash advertisements along with the latest news, weather and sports to customers shopping inside the store.

"It is a digital display that delivers dynamic content the consumer is interested in," said David Paolo, president and CEO of GoGo Cast.

Feedback he has received from business owners indicate an increase in sales for users, he said, and a marked change in consumer habits so that customers feel they must check the info-laden screen for the latest news and bargains every time they shop.

Paolo noted that consumers above a certain age tend to ignore ads, but today's younger customers are quite comfortable checking computer screens, such as cell phones, to obtain up-to-date information, and it is this latter compunction GoGo screens encourage. "From the feedback I'm getting, we are actually changing the behavior of consumers," Paolo said.

The business is doing so well, Paolo said, that it is expanding and he is hiring in Rhode Island.

He is looking to add employees in such fields as programming, customer service and sales.

Currently, GoGo Cast has 12 employees stationed around the country, with its headquarters in Cranston. Paolo plans to double the company's office space on Comstock Parkway.

GoGo Cast has its digital display screens in approximately 550 locations, including 200 in Rhode Island and the rest in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The Shell gas station and convenience store on Wickenden Street has a GoGo Cast screen, as do a number of other Shell stations in the state.

Tedeschi Food Shops, a convenience store chain with 190 locations in New England, signed on for the GoGo screens in June, with installation expected by the end of the third quarter.
